CONGRATS TO ROONEY!! She is on the COVER of the annual Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue, alongside fellow rising actresses Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska (some of my FAVORITES!). SO happy for her and what a beautiful shoot! Surely more to come as Vanity Fair continues to add to their coverage so check back!

Rooney is nearly unrecognizable in a new photoshoot in the February issue of W Magazine, which features the Best Performances on film in 2011. Congrats to Rooney on being in the company of people like Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron, “Dragon Tattoo” co-star Christoper Plummer and fellow rising stars like Elizabeth Olsen and Shailene Woodley. I’ll try to get an HQ scan up soon!

Head’s up! Rooney is hitting the talk show circuit to promote “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” so be sure to set your DVRs! Tonight she will appear on “Late Show with David Letterman” at 11:35pm on CBS (check your local scheduling to be sure) and on Monday morning she will appear on both “The Today Show” on NBC and “Live with Kelly”, which is syndicated.

We have confirmation of probably the first of many media appearances for Rooney, and (if no news comes out that she has earlier appearances) her first TV interview ever! She will appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Monday, December 19th, two days before “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” comes out on the 21st. Rooney Mara: Playing with Fire

It’s approaching midnight, and the June sun is winking on the horizon, still hoping to conjure one last moment of spooky beauty for the good people of Stockholm. Rooney Mara, David Fincher, and I are walking home from a two-bottle-of-wine dinner at their favorite café, around the corner from Ingmar Bergman Plats. Both of them have been living in Sweden, on and off, since the previous summer, shooting one of the most anticipated movies in years: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. As we pass the Royal Dramatic Theatre, where Greta Garbo studied as a teenager, Mara points to the clock tower in Gamla Stan, silhouetted in the distance, and reminds Fincher that when it strikes twelve it will be exactly one year to the day since he first auditioned her to play the part of Lisbeth Salander, arguably the most coveted role for an actress since Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With the Wind (another film adaptation of a wildly popular book featuring a shrewd, complicated, difficult-to-love heroine capable of slaying a man).

“Really?” says Fincher. “A year ago tomorrow?” He shakes his head in disbelief and then fishes a vibrating phone out of his pocket: “Hello, Amy.” It is the co-chairperson of Sony Pictures, Amy Pascal, the studio head who, if this movie takes off, will surely get credit for having greenlighted the first truly adult franchise to come out of Hollywood since the early seventies, when movies like The Exorcist—not Twilight—were winning the terrified hearts of audiences everywhere.

A new look at Rooney and Daniel as Lisbeth and Mikael in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” on the cover of the new issue of British film magazine Empire. Lots of new stuff promised within the covers so be sure to check back for scans and pick up and issue for yourself!

Our Nev Pierce interviewed all those involved and visited the set to bring you all the latest on the film, but here’s just a taster of what Fincher had to say about Salander herself.

“There were discussions early on where people were like, ‘She’s a superhero!’ And you go, ‘No, she’s not. Superheroes live in a world of good and evil, and she’s far more complex than a superhero. She’s been compromised. She’s been subjugated. She’s been marginalised. She’s been swept into the gutter and she’s had a part in it. She dresses like trash because she’s someone who has been betraued and hurt so badly, by forces beyond her control, that she’s just decided to be refuse. She can sit anywhere she wants on the bus, because nobody wants to deal with her.”
