According to IMDB, Rooney has signed on to a new feature film titled “Goats”, which co-stars Jason Schwartzman and Kevin Kline. Here is a brief summary of the plot:
Fourteen-year-old Ellis is getting ready to leave his luxurious home in the foothills of Tucson for his freshman year at Gates Academy, an East Coast prep school. This means leaving behind Wendy, his flaky, new age mother and the only real father he has ever known, Goat Man.
No more info about what role Rooney might be playing, etc yet. Rooney did mention that she would be shooting an indie film this summer so perhaps this is it. Will keep you updated with any news!
Congrats to Rooney and the entire cast and crew on their #1 movie this weekend!
New ‘Nightmare’ scares up $32.2M to open on top
LOS ANGELES – Freddy Krueger is raking in cash at the box office again.
A remake of the slasher flick “A Nightmare on Elm Street” led the weekend with a $32.2 million debut. The movie features Jackie Earle Haley as Krueger, a psycho killer who stalks and slays victims in their dreams.
Fright films typically drop steeply in their second weekends, since hardcore horror fans rush out to see them in the first few days. But the remake already is headed toward a solid profit after an opening weekend that roughly matched its modest production budget of just over $30 million.
The weekend’s other new wide release, Brendan Fraser’s family comedy “Furry Vengeance,” bombed with just $6.5 million.
Here’s the official extended synopsis from New Line!
New Line passed along the official, extended synopsis for A Nightmare on Elm Street, in case you needed a refresher as to what the movie is about.
Nancy (Rooney Mara), Kris (Katie Cassidy), Quentin (Kyle Gallner), Jesse (Thomas Dekker) and Dean (Kellan Lutz) all live on Elm Street. At night, they’re all having the same dream – of the same man, wearing a tattered red and green striped sweater, a beaten fedora half-concealing a disfigured face and a gardener’s glove with knives for fingers. And they’re all hearing the same frightening voice…
One by one, he terrorizes them within the curved walls of their dreams, where the rules are his, and the only way out is to wake up.
But when one of their number dies a violent death, they soon realize that what happens in their dreams happens for real, and the only way to stay alive is to stay awake. Turning to each other, the four surviving friends try to uncover how they became part of this dark fairytale, hunted by this dark man. Functioning on little to no sleep, they struggle to understand why them, why now, and what their parents aren’t telling them.
Buried in their past is a debt that has just come due, and to save themselves, they will have to plunge themselves into the mind of the most twisted nightmare of all… Freddy Krueger.
And then we’ll finally have some pictures of Rooney in this movie!!
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that the film YOUTH IN REVOLT, starring Michael Cera, will be arriving on Blu-ray June 15, 2010. The film is based on the cult novel of the same name by C.D. Payne and follows a boy who channels his bad boy alter ego to win the girl of his dreams. The most impressive special feature looks to be the commentary with Michael Cera which will probably be just as entertaining as the film itself.
The Blu-ray appears to have a decent line-up of special features which include:
* Director and Michael Cera Commentary
* Deleted Scenes
* Deleted and Extended Animated Sequences
* Audition footage
Rooney’s movie “Tanner Hall” (which will have a premiere and party at the Gen Art Film Fest tomorrow night – stay tuned for pics!) has been picked up for distribution by Moving Pictures, aiming for a late August or September release. Yay!
SANTA MONICA: Moving Pictures Film and Television has acquired Tanner Hall, written and directed by Tatiana von Furstenberg, the daughter of fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, and Francesca Gregorini, the daughter of Barbara Bach and step-daughter of Ringo Starr.
The movie features Amy Sedaris (Strangers with Candy), Tom Everett Scott (That Thing You Do), Chris Kattan (Saturday Night Live, A Night at the Roxbury), Rooney Mara (Youth in Revolt), Brie Larson (United States of Tara) and Georgia King (The Duchess). Tanner Halls gives a look into the private world of an all-girls boarding school in a New England town. Produced by Julie R. Snyder, the film is slated for a theatrical release in late August or September. A sneak peek screening will be held in New York on April 12.
Tomorrow night, at the stroke of midnight (PST), the official full length theatrical trailer for Rooney’s movie “A Nightmare on Elm Street” will debut online. We will of course bring you the video and caps as soon as it becomes available, so check back soon!!
Latino Review visited the Chicago set of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and have just posted their experience, which includes interviews with Rooney and other cast and crew members. And remember we have a new trailer and some new TV spots to look forward to this week!
Seated towards the middle of the factory and away from the sights and sounds of filming, we wait around the table for cast and crewmembers to speak with us.
One of the first is Rooney Mara, who, fresh from shooting a scene, walks across the factory in impossibly high boots that would surely pose a problem when running from Freddy Krueger. Her cheery disposition stands in contrast to her character Nancy Thompson, who moments before was yelling at her friend and love interest Quentin to wake up or risk a showdown with the nightmare-stalking Krueger.
“She’s described as ‘goth,’” explains Mara, but “She’s goth in the sense that she’s, quite obviously, disturbed and quiet and keeps to herself and can’t really open up to people or connect with people. And she feels really alone in the world because of things that happened to her when she was younger. But throughout the movie you see that change, and you see her grow, so it’s a good arc.”
Today, every bit of Nancy’s character design and Mara’s look reflect that realness and depth. Nancy isn’t a token hot teen in the latest fashions despite her boots. She wears dark colors, purple nail polish, and a baggy cardigan that seems to swallow her slight figure. And while there’s no denying that Mara is a gorgeous woman in real life, as Nancy her eyes are darkened and her hair stringy from depriving herself of sleep.
“Rooney was someone who, to us, embodied that kind of natural, real girl thing that Nancy had in the original,” says Fuller. “Freddy Krueger is the star of the film, and everyone else has to be able to have the chops to keep up with him, but that’s the star of the movie. For all of the actors, we tried to find kids who had the chops to be really good.”
And those chops extend to emulating her character’s self-imposed insomnia.
“If we have a really intense scene, I try not to let myself get more than three hours of sleeps, and after a few days that’s quite draining,” she tells us. “Last night when I went home I was like a wreck. I was really spent, because yesterday was really intense, because it was all day one of the most intense scenes in the movie, crying the whole day. Seventy-five takes of just bawling my eyes out.”
A new trailer for Rooney’s movie “A Nightmare on Elm Street” will debut with “The Crazies”, starting February 26 (online before that), and new TV spots will premiere this weekend during the Olympics! If you see a commercial, especially if you are on the East Coast, please let us know details so we can record it and put it online for everybody. Can’t wait for promotion to really start kicking off!!!
Rooney’s movie “Dare” is out on DVD and Blu-Ray today! I saw this movie and while it’s nothing special, Rooney’s performance really stood out and proves the range that she has. It’s a character unlike any other she’s played before, that’s for sure! If only for Rooney’s performance alone, I would recommend this movie.
