The cast for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” continues to come together, and today we have word of who’s going to be young Harriet Vanger. Alexandra Daddario of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” will be portraying young Harriet in the flashback scenes of the movie.
The 24-year-old actress will next be seen in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as a young Harriet Vanger. The older version is played by Joely Richardson. Do you think they look alike?

David Fincher spoke to Swedish news outlet SVD to promote “The Social Network” and of course had some things to say about “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, which is currently filming. Most notably, 3 new actors have joined the cast: Joely Richardson, Steven Berkoff and David Dencik, who appeared in the original Swedish films as well. Below is a rough translation of the interview:
Millennium film will “capture Sweden”
Director David Fincher wants his version of Stieg Larsson’s books to catch Sweden.
“I hope I can find an atmosphere reminiscent of “Chinatown”.”
David Fincher is a superstar in Hollywood. He has previously made such as “Seven” and “Fight Club”, and may currently very positive reviews for his film “The social network”, the story of the young men who started up.
It is to talk about the film – which goes up in Sweden on 22 October – as he hits up a few journalists.
But since he is currently also engaged in directing the first American film by Stieg Larsson “Millennium” trilogy, he also speaks about it – but says a bit ironically:
“I’ve just started with it. I have not had time to figure out some cliché answers yet to use when I asked about it.”
Filming has already started, but first this week is production in high gear with filming on the streets around Stockholm.
David Fincher says that it is definitely not a remake of the Swedish film.
“There is absolutely no reason to do that. Steve Zaillian has written the new screenplay, and he has based it on the book and made his own version. Sure, there are scenes that will resemble them in the Swedish film, but it is the book that we are filming.”
He talks a lot about “Swedish Noir”, and says that his movie also atmospherically will differ from the Swedish. “It was very effectively done in an American way. I hope I can find an atmosphere reminiscent of ‘Chinatown’.”
Roman Polanski directed the noir classic from 1974 with Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway in the lead roles.
When the TT spectra asked when shooting starts for real, and when Daniel Craig would come into play in the role of Mikael Blomkvist, Fincher just smiles and does not respond.
Will there be one, or will the three Millennium Films?
David Fincher laughs loudly and says, “We’ll see. If the first is not good, it’s no use to do more.”
However, he with a few new names added to the actress list where we have been told Craig, Rooney Mara, Stellan Skarsgård, Robin Wright and Christopher Plummer.
“Let’s see. Joely Richardson. And Steven Berkoff. And David Dencik.”
David Finchers “The girl with the dragon tattoo” will premiere in autumn 2011.

EW.com caught up with David Fincher in New York today where he is promoting “The Social Network” (hoping we might see Rooney today!) and he had some words about the recent rumors of Rooney’s injury and the photos that leaked of her riding a motorcycle.
Fans of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo held their breath on Wednesday when it was reported that the upcoming Hollywood film adaptation — currently in production in Sweden — had to shut down after star Rooney Mara injured her shoulder. Sony quickly shot down the rumors, saying that the new Lisbeth Salander is fine.
Now director David Fincher is also speaking up to assure fans that all is well: “It’s total bulls—,” he told EW this morning in NYC, where he’s promoting the world premiere of his new film The Social Network at the New York Film Festival. “She’s alive and well,” he confirms. “We don’t even shoot with her until October.”
Fincher also said that leaked photos appearing to show Mara in full Salander garb aren’t the real deal, either. “There have been no photos of her in costume,” he says. “There have only been photos of her learning to ride a Harley 350.”
So breathe easy, Dragon lovers: Salander will ride another day.
PHEW! Was hoping that story wasn’t true! Moviefone has gotten in touch with a representative at Sony and they have confirmed the reports of Rooney injuring her shoulder on the set of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” are totally false.
Word arrived this morning via a Swedish website that Rooney Mara was “severely injured” on the set of ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’, and that production on the film was shut down indefinitely. The report claimed Mara injured her shoulder while filming and that she was rushed to the hospital from the set. Well, from what we’ve just learned, it appears the new Lisbeth Salandar is just fine.
Cinematical reached out to Sony regarding the matter, and they’re claiming the story is not true at all. So relax, take a breath and go about your daily business knowing Ms. Mara is still equipped to film what’s easily shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of 2011. Directed by David Fincher, ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ is the first English-language adaptation of the popular series penned by Stieg Larsson. There are three books all together in the series (‘Dragon Tattoo’, ‘The Girl Who Played with Fire’, ‘The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest’), and all three have already been adapted into Swedish films, with newcomer Noomi Rapace drawing critical acclaims for her portrayal of Lisbeth Salandar.
