The publicity tour for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” has begun! Today Rooney and director David Fincher are, appropriately, in Sweden attending a press event for the movie. The movie will also have its world premiere in Sweden on Decmber 13. We should be seeing a lot of Rooney over the next few months so stay tuned!!
A new look at Rooney and Daniel as Lisbeth and Mikael in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” on the cover of the new issue of British film magazine Empire. Lots of new stuff promised within the covers so be sure to check back for scans and pick up and issue for yourself!
Our Nev Pierce interviewed all those involved and visited the set to bring you all the latest on the film, but here’s just a taster of what Fincher had to say about Salander herself.
“There were discussions early on where people were like, ‘She’s a superhero!’ And you go, ‘No, she’s not. Superheroes live in a world of good and evil, and she’s far more complex than a superhero. She’s been compromised. She’s been subjugated. She’s been marginalised. She’s been swept into the gutter and she’s had a part in it. She dresses like trash because she’s someone who has been betraued and hurt so badly, by forces beyond her control, that she’s just decided to be refuse. She can sit anywhere she wants on the bus, because nobody wants to deal with her.”
A new trailer has been released for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and it’s almost 4 minutes long!! We finally hear Rooney’s Swedish accent for the first time and she sounds fantastic!! So much good Lisbeth footage to be found in here. HD caps will be up soon!
Ahhhh, our first interview with Rooney and Daniel about “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”! Fitting that they sat down with Swedish journalists to talk about shooting the film. Watch it below and caps coming soon!
I’ve added a couple of new stills from “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” to the gallery, along with replacing the first still with an HQ version. Enjoy!!
December is getting closer and closer! Today we have our first promotional still of Rooney as Lisbeth in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”. Be sure to pick up a copy of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly because it has new images and a new interview with Rooney as well.
On her last meeting with Fincher after two-plus months of auditioning: “At that point I was just super frustrated. I was like, ‘You have to decide. Either you think I’m the girl or you don’t. There’s not much more I can do to prove it to you.’ I went in there sort of ready to fight. I was pissed. But David sat me down and gave me this long speech about the part. Then he handed me his iPad, and it had the press release on it. He said, ‘I’m prepared to send this out. You have half an hour to let me know if you want the part.’”
On the controversial poster, which features Mara topless: “I was supportive of it. I understand why there was a lot of controversy. People have a hard time with strong females and with nudity. But I think had I been doing something incredibly violent on the poster, people wouldn’t have had a problem with it. That sort of says a lot about the world that we live in. It’s just a teaser poster. I think it did just that. It teased people.”
On filming the book’s notoriously harrowing rape scene: “It was incredibly intense. We did it all in a week — the week of Valentine’s Day, oddly enough. We were working 16 hours a day, and it was really, really challenging, not just emotionally but physically. But it’s such an important scene. We wanted to do everything we could to get that right.”
Rooney’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” co-star Daniel Craig is currently making the promo rounds for his new movie “Cowboys and Aliens” and of course reporters can’t resist asking him more about Rooney and their even more highly anticipated movie. Below, he tells MTV News about how much Rooney impressed him and will impress moviegoers come December.
‘Dragon Tattoo’ Star Rooney Mara ‘Nailed’ The Part
Daniel Craig tells MTV News his co-star is “massively impressive” as hacker Lisbeth Salander.
Who would win the right to be Lisbeth Salander? Last summer, Hollywood was consumed with that question, as some of the biggest names in the business competed to land that coveted starring role in David Fincher’s adaptation of the international best-selling crime thriller, “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”
Actresses like Natalie Portman, Kristen Stewart and Ellen Page reportedly were eyeing the gig, and yet it went to a relative unknown named Rooney Mara. The fresh-faced Mara seemed an unlikely choice at first to play Salander, an emotionally scarred, motorcycle-driving hacker not adverse to violent confrontations with anyone who crosses her. But our first look at Mara in character assuaged any fan misgivings: Mara has turned into Salander.
And perhaps no one was more impressed by that transformation than co-star Daniel Craig, who plays Mikael Blomkvist, the disgraced journalist hired to investigate a decades-old missing-persons case. Blomkvist then hires Salander to assist in the search.
“Rooney is massively impressive,” he told MTV News during a recent “Cowboys & Aliens” press event. “She took [it] on under a massive amount of pressure because obviously there’s a lot of expectation. I was massively impressed and she absolutely nailed this. People are hopefully are going to be incredibly surprised and happy with her performance.”
This movie just looks better and better. The leaked red band trailer has been taken down, but the official green band trailer, which has 98% of the same clips, has been released, and in HD! Watch it and see some caps below. Also released is the first teaser poster of the movie, and it is slightly NSFW so view at your own discretion! The official website for the movie is now up also, along with the official Twitter.
